Weekly Roundup, of a sort

Mixing up the pink hair dye for our Weekend to End Breast Cancer hair-dying party.
It’s been a busy week, with a lot going on at work and hair-dye parties at home (Mom, Esther (my sister), Nancy (Colin’s mom), Colin, and I all dyed our hair pink on Wednesday evening)! I’m still in the process of getting together with people for the first time since being back in Calgary for the summer, and we’re trying to enjoy the weather and Calgary’s limited summer as much as possible. So, in point(ish) form, here’s what’s been going on. I suppose you could call it a weekly round-up, but it’s not in the usual categories:
- Last weekend, we were out in Drumheller for the Passion Play. I wasn’t in it this year, but Colin and I spent the weekend camping with his parents, and I was there for moral support and to see the show (I think that’s the first time I’ve ever sat in the audience during a performance!). I’m sure I’ll be back next year; in what capacity, I’m not sure, but it’ll be somehow.
- I’ve been reading the Thursday Next novels lately. Seriously, I have so much love for those stories. They’re silly and intellectual, all at the same time, and they really are books for book lovers.
- The Calgary Folk Fest is this weekend. We went down last night and hung out for a while, and we have tickets for tonight, too, but tomorrow’s an early morning, so we’ll see whether we feel like heading down there. Iron and Wine played last night; tonight, The Decemberists are headlining.
- You can still donate to my walk by visiting my profile page. I’ve still got about $400 to go, but there have been so many great people who have stepped up in the past few days and helped out. It’s far less daunting now! We’ll be heading down to Stampede Park at around 6:30 tomorrow morning, so I suppose I should start thinking about getting packed and ready to go.
- We’re watching Bones right now. It’s one of those shows that I’ve been meaning to watch forever, but didn’t want to start halfway through, so I’ve been waiting until we can sit down and watch it on DVD. I’m definitely the type of person who doesn’t start a show on season 2 or 3; if I haven’t been watching from the beginning, I don’t start watching it at all, until I can catch up on DVD, and then I’ll keep up-to-date with it on TV. However, I’m finding that I kind of prefer marathon sessions rather than the year-long (or 8-month-long) experience of watching a show when it airs. Waiting until later definitely has its disadvantages, but there are also great advantages, and not having to wait or deal with hiatus is one of the best.
In any case, I’ll have more next week, including something more substantial on the Passion Play and a few other things I’ve been seeing and working on. Fringe Festival is coming up, although we’ll be out of town for the first weekend of it (we’re heading to Denver next weekend for my cousin’s wedding). I’m hoping that we’ll be able to see a lot of great theatre during the second half of the festival, though. (Speaking of which, I should make sure we’ve got our passes, shouldn’t I?) I’m sure there’ll be lots to talk about after that, too!
